Careers Service
The MLP, Careers and Employability Division at The University of Manchester is consistently recognised as being one of the best in the UK. The Association of Graduate Recruiters has voted them the best careers service in the UK for 5 consecutive years. They also achieved the Matrix Quality Standard in November 2009.
Whether you are looking for a career using your degree or want to explore other options, the Careers Service can help you. They offer a comprehensive range of services, from one-to-one guidance appointments through to talks and workshops on different careers options. Suzanne Creeber and John Richardson are the primary Careers Consultants for SEAES students but other advisers can help deal with your queries too.
Annually, the Careers Service advertise thousands of vacancies on their website, from graduate training programmes with the biggest companies in the world through to volunteering with local charities – and everything in between. You can even opt to get vacancies sent direct to your email account!
And they are not just about graduate jobs – they can help with part-time work, work experience and working abroad too. First and second year students are regular users, as are postgraduate students. Graduates also get full access to their services for three years after graduation.
The Careers Service also organises some major recruitment fairs, some of the biggest outside London, including the Science, Engineering and Technology Fair every October and the Graduate Recruitment Fair in June. Their extensive events programme includes everything from talks on different career areas through to advice on applications and interviews.
The Careers Service also delivers the Manchester Leadership Programme, a Level 2 accredited unit that enables you to explore current leadership issues with experts from a wide variety of fields, and to work with students from all faculties across the university.
You can find more information about these services and events on their website. There is additional information for postgraduates and for international students too, including special careers blogs. (They also offer careers provision for research staff in collaboration with the Staff Training and Development Unit).
