About us
We are one of the largest groups of researchers in the UK with expertise in terrestrial and marine surface processes, sedimentology, seismic and sequence stratigraphy and basin tectonics. Many Group members have industrial experience in the petroleum geoscience sector and are actively collaborating with industry on various research projects. Industrial research project focus on regional basin analysis, analysis of structural style, process sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy, 3D seismic interpretation, and reservoir modelling. The Group also runs the successful Petroleum Geoscience Masters (MSc) course within the University.
Our research is focused on fundamental studies into processes controlling landscape evolution, seismic and sequence stratigraphy, structural geology and sedimentary geochemistry within sedimentary basins, and their application to understanding petroleum systems and environmental change. We have dedicated state-of-the-art facilities, for digital outcrop data collection and analysis, and for the interpretation, modelling and visualization of DEM and 3D seismic data. We also have dedicated facilities for numerical modelling, in addition to the HPC facilities in Manchester Computing. Major industrial consortia run by the Group include, The North Africa Research Group (NARG), and The Rifts Analogues Project (TRAP).
The following pages outline our various research themes (including links to industry consortia), personnel and our facilities. There are also links to our collaborators and sponsors, previous and current members of the Group, and summaries of recent and up and coming conference presentations, events and vacancies.
