Our banded fees represent the great variety of research that the School undertakes. Some projects involve the use of very expensive analytical techniques, while others incorporate extensive fieldwork, often abroad, and yet others proceed with few excess costs incurred. The fee bands enable us to cover the associated costs on an individual basis. The fee band appropriate to your research project will be discussed with your supervisor (and sponsor if applicable) to ensure that your work is fully supported. The resulting composite fee (represented by one of the fee bands) will then cover all your normal research and study costs i.e. your financial commitment to the University for your programme of study.

Further information on academic tuition fees for PhD/MPhil study at the University of Manchester is available from this link

In addition you will require money to support yourself throughout the year (maintenance), which the University and funding councils currently estimate at around £12,600 per year.
