What are our current postgraduate research students doing?
Scott Archer-Nicholls
Basin Studies and Petroleum Geoscience
Our research incorporates all aspects of the coupled sedimentary basin - landscape system, from source to sink and from micro- to macro-scales. We use cutting-edge seismic, digital outcrop and computational methods to map and analyse the surface and subsurface of the Earth.
Environmental Geochemistry and Geomicrobiology
Our research focuses on the characterization of mineral-water-organic matter reactions in surface and subsurface environments. By combining the techniques of microbiology and molecular biology with physical, chemical and modelling approaches, we are identifying the role that microorganisms play in key environmental processes.
Martha Jimenez Castaneda
Structural and Petrological Geoscience
Research under the Structural and Petrological Geoscience theme covers many aspects of petrology, structural and tectonic geology in the field and in the laboratory. There is particular emphasis on experimental studies of phase equilibria at high pressures and temperatures (such as occur in subduction zones) and experimental studies of rock deformation and petrophysical properties over the entire range of crustal conditions.
