What are Earth Sciences?
The Earth is a geologist's classroom. Have you ever wondered why Everest came to exist, or why the Grand Canyon is so spectacular, or why the Giants Causeway is there. Geology is a very visual science. Many problems in geology are much like solving a puzzle.
Geology is the study of the Earth, its shapes, substances, processes and evolution. The further we delve into understanding the world around us the more science comes into play, Geology draws together these different strands, it is a truly multidisciplinary science.
Lots of people looked at me like I've got two heads when I tell them I'm doing Geology. They don't know what geology is. Geology would appeal to many people, they just don't know it exists!
We study everything from the solid Earth up through the atmosphere and out into the solar system and beyond and pay particular attention to the wet slimy bit between the crust and atmosphere where we live.
We study on all scales from the very small to the very large including crystal formation, mountain chain development, plate tectonics, river and glacier development and even planetary evolution.
Studying Geology will mean that you will have an understanding of how the world around you works and see it in a completely new light.
